While pursuing my nursing degree at UL, I continued running the lawn care business on the side. As nursing school became more demanding, I began to hire friends to help with my growing number of lawn care jobs. Although I dreamed of becoming a travel nurse, I soon realized I could juggle both passions—working as a nurse while running my own business.
In December 2007, I graduated nursing school and became an ICU nurse at Opelousas General, working night shifts. I balanced my nursing career and the lawn care business, cutting grass on my days off and relying on a dedicated team to help me maintain the work while I was at the hospital.
In 2009, I expanded my business by acquiring a small landscaping company—one truck, a trailer, some lawnmowers, and a handful of landscaping jobs. That’s when I dove deep into the world of landscaping, taking courses and earning my landscaping license. I even carpooled with friends to work at the hospital, and would spend my early mornings walking around the Lowes nursery, learning about plants and landscaping.
The acquisition of this company helped me expand further, providing a full week’s worth of work. To manage my growing business, I switched to a weekend night shift at the hospital, working every Saturday and Sunday night while continuing to cut grass and landscape during the day. I did this for a year, training a team of guys to manage the work while I was away. Eventually, I switched to day shifts at the hospital, allowing me to focus more on my landscaping company.
By 2015, I made the bold decision to retire from nursing and dedicate myself fully to Acadiana Choppers. With all my attention on the business, it began to grow quickly, transforming into the thriving company we are today.
